500th day Surprises of Geoff (Part 2)
February 25, 2012
As you may have noticed, we don’t celebrate monthsaries but we do celebrate by a hundred days. I just thought that celebrating every month is too common and tiring that you’d run out of surprises for your partner. We decided to celebrate it every hundred days so that it will be something we’ll look forward to, instead of something we’d dread every month.

500th day Surprises of Geoff (Part 1)
February 24, 2012
I remember was Geoff kept on texting me, asking if we are busy in the office. I kind of felt that he was up to something. But since it was already 5:30pm, I thought the day will be over soon. But to my surprise, an officemate saw someone coming from the hallway, IN A BOW TIE AND FULL SUIT REGALIA, WITH A BOUQUET AND STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE.
To my surprise I SHOUTED OH MY GOD and...
The photo shoot that was. (2011)
shoot happened in Suite 128 LRI Business Plaza 210 N. Garcia St. Bel-Air 2 Makati City
with Mam Vene, my former prof in Ateneo who was also featured in the magazine. I love her so much, I didn’t absent myself in her class and got an A for her subject.
All photos were taken by my ever-supportive chubby hubby. :)

Sexing the Cherry, On God and Self-Discovery
I have met a great many pilgrims on their way towards God and I wonder why they have chosen to look for him rather than themselves. Perhaps I’m missing the point — perhaps whilst looking for someone else you might come across yourself unexpectedly, in a garden somewhere or on a mountain watching the rain. But they don’t seem to care about who they are. Some of them have told me...

Sexing the Cherry, On Time
Thinking about time is like turning the globe round and round, recognizing that all journeys exist simultaneously, that to be in one place is not to deny the existence of another, even though that other place cannot be felt or seen, our usual criteria for belief.
[…] The world is flat and round, is it not? We have dreams of moving back and forward in time, though to use the words back and...

Sexing the Cherry, On Self
I had in the past entangled myself in numerous affairs with women who would not, could not, or did not love me. And did I love them? I thought so at that time, though now I have come to doubt it, seeing only that I loved myself through them.
[…] A man or a woman sunk in dreams that cannot be spoken, about a life they do not possess, comes suddenly to a door in the wall. They open it. Beyond...

Sexing the Cherry, On Love
What is love?
[…] I am too huge for love. No one, male or female, has ever dared to approach me. they are afraid to scale mountains.
I wonder about love because the parson says that only God can truly love us and the rest is lust and selfishness.
[…] I am a sinner, not in body but in mind. I know what love sounds like because I have heard it through the wall, but I do not know what...

Sexing the Cherry, On Women
I noticed that women have a private language. A language not dependent on the constructions of men but structured by signs and expressions, and that uses ordinary words as code-words meaning something other
In my petticoats I was a traveler in a foreign country. I did not speak the language. I was regarded with suspicion.
I watched women flirting with men, pleasing men, doing business with men,...

YES.
I envy you, kid, who can afford to fly and go out of the country at the age of 20, go out, drink, have fun, smoke, with lots of money in hand, money you didn’t earn but from your parents who wanted to give the world to you, while I rot, here, wanting to live the life you have, while I here, struggle with 3 jobs only to support my family, to pay the house, the water bills, the internet, the...
Weekly bookstore date photodiary! (a week ago)
We make it a point to go to the bookstore every week and spend 2 hours or so talking about our new finds! It’s a good break from all the stresses we usually experience for working so hard the whole week. :)
Went to Fully Booked after then had early dinner in Katip then we went to Capitol Hills to eat dessert! We always prefer being in quiet places. If it’s not a bookstore, we go to...

A follower on twitter JR Ignacio (@scrufus) sent me the article The Trouble With Bright Kids. Some of you may want to read it as well. Here are a few words from the article:
How often have you found yourself avoiding challenges and playing it safe, sticking to goals you knew would be easy for you to reach? Are there things you decided long ago that you could never be good at? Skills you believed...
If you're smart and arrogant, read this.
I admire a lot of smart people — especially those who know much about history, art and literature. They always inspire me to learn more. But what frustrates me is the fact that these smart people have low tolerance for mistakes. They rant about the random things that need not be mentioned, simply because some people are not as smart as them. Personally, I have learned to contain my anger...
senglot asked: Hi! I really like your post about Ateneans' attitude on working and think humility should apply to graduates of other universities as well. Hope you don't mind that I hit the "Follow" button. :)
Biksa Coffee for my birthday (03 July 2011)
We never had a plan for my birthday. It was something random. Hanging out in my house in the afternoon, checked the web and saw this coffee shop. We went there and had a very intimate and memorable day together. Biksa is now one of my go to places whenever I feel like I want to slow down.

Anonymous asked: Hi po. =) I was inspired by your post about the Ateneans and made me realize lots of things. I salute you. :) Btw, where did you get your theme? I kinda like it too. :) I'm sorry if I had to ""anonize"" myself. Lol.
tumblingin2u asked: thanks girl! tagal na ng pic na yan, right before I got pregnant, I'm just using it kasi naka color pink ako. :) but seriously, I loved your blog post. Applies to everybody actually. We should never be too full of ourselves to think we're better than the task in front of us. :)
drowninginsensorypleasure asked: Thank you for your article. Kahit saan pa tayo school grumaduate, the most important thing is that we keep a humble attitude with work. It's the only thing we need to go places. People nowadays want shortcuts. Please keep on being an inspiration. :)
Anonymous asked: Great article. It taught me a lot and I'm not even an Atenean. I'm from the green side over at Taft avenue. haha
guyintheshadowwithfangs asked: On your post about Atenean graduates and what they do wrong. Firstly, I'm not actually asking. Just want to say thanks for sharing your reflection which I think just about anybody should also think about.
tumblingin2u asked: Just wanted to give you a big thumbs up on your write up about what Ateneans do wrong in the professional world. Being an office person and working in an environment filled with people having varied educational backgrounds, I often see Atenistas stumbling on a lot of the roadblocks you've mentioned. Actually, not just them, but La Sallistas too and a lot from other "Elite" schools....
ritchellesabandal asked: you earn a fan from the south.
frazstration asked: Hi! I just want to say how I was inspired and enlightened about your "Atenean persepctive".. I am not an Atenean. I'm actually from UP. And let me just say how you deserved to be commended. You just earned a fan now.
danatorio asked: I just want to point out that what you described on your post are Ateneo graduates, NOT Ateneans. Sadly, not all Ateneo students/graduates can be called Ateneans, because I believe that to be truly such entails being possessed by a certain "spirit that pervades among its best people" (Doc Gus). The Ateneo doesn't teach us to develop those wrong attitudes, tayo ang natutukso sa...
februaryyy asked: Hello there. I just wanna say that your post about ateneans are trending. I can't say that all of it is false though coz' as an atenean I've actually seen some of them doing those things. You're entitled on your opinion and I respect you for that \m/
rubeeeeep asked: hey! I just wanna say that I really like and I appreciate your post (the one about the things Ateneans do after graduation. And I take no offense, even the slightest bit, with what you wrote. It's very humbling actually and I learned some important things that I could take with me wherever I go. Thanks!
Anonymous asked: You are such a shame to your own school.
Anonymous asked: from a 40 yr old HS & BS M.E. + English Honors: You write well. Writing well is not only about diction and immaculate grammar. You hit the nail right in the head. Don't let any narrow-minded-lonely-blowhard-wanna-be get in the way. Do you agree?
danatorio asked: Pretentious intellectual bad ass ka kasi, HAHA! Honestly, I can't say that I agree with exactly everything you said in that controversial blog post, but what that post displayed were your OWN reflections (and the sense of urgency in your part to express them) which, apparently, carried a message which resonated among certain people. I would have liked it if people expressed disagreements or...
And another thing I am not pretending to be smart.
In my 20 years of existence, nobody ever told me I was pretentious. The CONSISTENT compliment that I always get from people is that I’ve always been a real person. And I get this often from the people I meet for the first time. It’s one thing I disagree with because I never faked anything to achieve what I have now.
For one, I didn’t pretend to be smart to be a valedictorian. I...
Anonymous asked: pretentious. outstandingly awful grammar and diction. you're most definitely nowhere near the prowess of an'intellectual bad-ass'

What Ateneans Do Wrong After Graduating
I was having dinner with my boss and her husband (all three of us Ateneans) when we talked about the difference with how Gloria and Noynoy sees life. Gloria being the realistic one and Noynoy being the usual, ideal Atenean. Then her husband started narrating about how only few Ateneans become successful in life at the age of 40, with his roster of friends as a perfect example. People at the age of...
